It's safe to say with how much time Kirk spent in bars his short life he's gotten really good at brawling. That doesn't exactly mean he'll win a fight but you can bet that Kirk will be giving someone a good run for their money. He's not afraid of throwing or receiving punches and he's pretty much accustomed to bleeding. A fight is a fight and someone has to get dirty. Kirk is the right man for this job. (He fights dirty when he has to).

History:
Personality:
"Do you know what a pain you are? You think the rules don't apply to you. There's greatness in you, but there's not an ounce of humility. You think that you can't make mistakes, but there's going to come a moment when you realize you're wrong about that, and you're going to get yourself and everyone under your command killed." [Christopher Pike to Kirk]To most at first glance, James T. Kirk can can come off as arrogant, self-centered, and incredibly prideful. He's an intelligent man who has a very known sense of disorder that has made him a repeat offender regardless of how educated he is. He's doesn't particularly have much respect for order and he certainly doesn't take rules to heart. That being said, as much as Kirk can be careless, he's got the biggest heart you could ever come across. Self-sacrificing, optimistic, and with a heart of steel, Kirk does himself justice.
His trouble-making tendencies started from a very young age. Growing up in a troubled household with an abusive step father didn't seem to ultimately instill a lot of rule-following in the boy. By a very young age he was all ready quite the little criminal stealing cars and causing mayhem. A rebel at heart, it's no surprise he grew up the same way. As an adult, he frequented bars and enjoyed the company of women. He didn't necessarily fear consequence as a child and he doesn't fear it now. Bar brawling is possibly a very common thing for the guy yet regardless of how troublesome he is, Kirk is still a genius.
This probably has a lot to do with the fact he is arrogant and self-centered. Kirk apparently doesn't believe in no-win scenario's because he's confident that he can solve any problem. Although as canon progress's, Kirk eventually learns that there are things he's not particularly capable of fixing, he stands firm that there is always something to do. He has a tendency of taking matters into his own hands and therefore; inevitably, displaying his self-sacrificing nature. His arrogance at times clouds his judgment and makes him feel invincible. This normally leads to rash decisions that might end in consequences that he doesn't really foresee. Not only that, Kirk doesn't really care. As long as what he wanted accomplished and his crew is fine, he really doesn't care about the means of getting there even if it's against protocol (The black hole as an example or saving Spock from a volcano)
His pride is a big issue when it comes to making good decisions. If there's one thing James T. Kirk doesn't like it is being outsmarted or out witted. Although he always has something to say when insulted, he really doesn't care what people(except for the people in his crew) think. He is a sore loser and as far as he's concerned, he is capable of winning anything he sets his mind to. He'll get into serious confrontations because of pride that at times might even jeopardize his own life. Although he won't admit it, he actually relies on his trusty commander Spock to assist him in his over all decision making. Spock is somewhat of the neutral type that sifts through Kirk's emotions in order to find a good medium.
As far as what Kirk holds most dear to him, the safety of his crew is probably the most important thing to him. His optimism and self-sacrificing nature are one of the things that a lot of his crew appreciates. As a captain, you have to be ready to handle any situation and Kirk does a good job of keeping his head on the ground when times get rough. When all odds are against him, Kirk seems to manage it well by countering with his own plans or ideas. It's almost terrifying how optimistic he is that at most times when everyone around him is freaking out, he's got such a strong sense of positive thinking that it's what technically keeps him on his feet. Of course, there are times when even he doubts his own actions but in the end, his heart of steel is what keeps him moving forward until his very last breath.
In regards to his every-day life, Kirk can be described as a free spirit, he likes having a good time. Canonly, his reputation denotes him as a type of man-whore and he's always up for a good drink. Women and booze seem to go hand in hand and his sociable nature normally gets him what he wants. It also doesn't help that he's really good looking but in a nutshell, Kirk is quite the character.
Fears:
- ✦ Losing his 'family' (crew)
"Nobody knows the rules better than you, Spock, but sometimes exceptions have to be made!" [In regards to saving Spock from a Volcano]To Kirk, his crew is the most valuable possession he's got and he would stop at nothing to save them. As captain to his ship, Starfleet code mandates that the responsibilities for the care, well-being, and safety of the crew resides solely on him. Naturally, Kirk cares very little for code and protocol but he takes this seriously and to heart and not once has he forsaken them. His rash behavior sometimes puts the crew in a particularly dangerous situation (which can be tied to his fear of being an incompetent leader) but he generally thinks before he acts when his crew is concerned.
Canonly, Kirk doesn't hesitate to offer his own life and freedom as a bartering chip to his enemies in order to spare his crew without any regrets. He even walks into his own death enduring much pain from radiation in order to save his crew and his ship without thinking about the consequences that might unfold for him even if the hazards were explained in detail to him. They are the closest thing to a family he's got and because he considers them as such, he's willing to stop at nothing for their sake.
✦ Fear of failure
"There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek revenge when those we love are taken from us. But that's not who we are...If there's something Kirk doesn't accept very easily it's losing. Although he doesn't particularly see the world as a game, he does take wrong decisions to be a type of failure in his part. Back then, as a cocky and prideful youth, he couldn't bare being singled out or beaten. As he matured and became attached to his crew, he learned that with somethings, his decisions might cause more harm than he could potentially fix.
As a captain and a man, Kirk knows wrong decisions can lead to bad results and some as serious as death so he thinks twice whenever he makes a decision. Unfortunately, Kirk is very hot-headed and most times finds himself making decisions rashly based on his emotions. He tends to change them as time goes by based on the influences from Spock but even he knows when the time comes, the final choice is his. He's not always right and he sure has done a lot of stupid mistakes (one even cost him his title as Captain), but he's got different priorities than Starfleet: like saving a friend over keeping to protocol (As an example).
✦ Incompetence as a leader
"You're right! What I am about to do, it doesn't make sense, it's not logical, it is a gut feeling! I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I only know what I can do."This fear ties back to the fact that Kirk thinks of his crew as a family and knows that his decisions might invoke some bad fate on his people. As smart as he is and as much as he might know, there's always going to be those moments where he won't know what to do or he'll be stuck in a bind and he's afraid of not knowing what to do or more precisely, running out of options. As a self-sacrificing type, until the enemy has taken his last breath, he won't stop fighting and that, his death, could easily be his last attempt so he's got a fear of pretty much dying without having his crew out of danger. He would have failed his crew and failed himself. Final decisions always rest on him so their blood would be on his hands.
Weaknesses:
- ✦ Too willing for self sacrifice
"I don't believe in no-win scenarios." [In response to battle]There is no limit to what Kirk could possibly do for the sake of his crew and those he cares about. Whether his own life be placed at risk or not, Kirk won't hesitate to sacrifice himself in the name of the safety of his friends. In a sense James T. Kirk isn't particularly afraid of dying yet death itself is a scary thought. What that means is that were the option presented to him that his death could potentially save hundreds, he wouldn't second guess his decision of self sacrifice. There would be no regrets for the captain unless it meant his peers weren't saved (which is discussed in his fears)
Unfortunately for Kirk, it's such a well known fact by merely spending some time talking with him that his self-sacrificing nature can be easily used against him as it technically is during canon.
✦ Unhindered optimism
"You know, that instinct to leap without looking, that was his nature too, and in my opinion, it's something Starfleet's lost."[Christopher Pike on Kirk]Not only does Kirk leave no battle untamed, he's not one to give up regardless of how far the odds are against him. Kirk has a wonderfully powerful optimistic outlook about 99% of the time (the other time being when he fails, etc.). This normally gets him into trouble because most people take advantage of the fact he never gives up. Sometimes he casts out whether doing something is the right thing or not in order to inevitably get what he is trying to pull. This also helps others around him because his optimism tends to 'rally the troops'.
✦ Race: human
In a world of super-humans, the odds are not in Kirk's favor most battles. Because of his prideful self and his rash behavior, it's not hard to see him taking on more than he can chew. Regardless, Kirk prefers to die trying than to not try at all. That puts him in a compromising position because he's easily beat and more often than not he tends to be the one bleeding in the end.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
- ✦ Strategic genius
"You like being the only genius-level repeat offender in the Midwest?" [Christopher Pike on Kirk]Despite his rash behavior and his wildly known unorthodox methods, Kirk is actually a strategic genius when it comes to getting something done. Most of his crazy plans go according to plan and when they don't, he's always got a another crazy plan in reserve just in case his first one fails. That being said, Kirk is always on the ball when it comes to attacking back in high-pressure situations. Considering his criminal record, apparently his genius was enough for Starfleet to ignore his offenses because he was allowed and honored as a captain in three years when a normal cadet would take four just to become an officer. Obviously, they trust his abilities in Starfleet.
✦ Semi-successful brawler
It's safe to say with how much time Kirk spent in bars his short life he's gotten really good at brawling. That doesn't exactly mean he'll win a fight but you can bet that Kirk will be giving someone a good run for their money. He's not afraid of throwing or receiving punches and he's pretty much accustomed to bleeding. A fight is a fight and someone has to get dirty. Kirk is the right man for this job. (He fights dirty when he has to).
Sensitivity/Magical Ability:
- ✦ 'Dungeon Master Mode' lucky
Kirk has a very peculiar way of proving the rules of logic incorrect through the use of his 'gut feeling', it is super effective. Although Kirk is known to get his hide handed to him in most fights he takes on, when it comes to other situations (more life threatening) and where the percent or possibility of accomplishment is very low, he's a pretty lucky guy. We're talking about him dying and apparently not dying at the same time. Several examples happen where his 'gut feeling' tells him of an impending doom (sort of like a really creepy spider sense) and he unknowingly saves lives because he's right. Some might argue that this is due in part to his intelligence but when you're dealing with people from another dimension and time period, this is definitely considered 'luck'.
This might not seem like a magical ability but considering how easily Kirk can prove the all-mighty prince of logic; Mister Spock, wrong it's safe to say that Kirk's luck is good enough. This this might end up saving him at some point in a dangerous setting like this.

- There was nothing like being back where he belonged: the captain's chair.
Just twenty minutes ago he had been at dispatch waiting for his 'doctor' to give him a green light before boarding his own ship. It was annoying to say the least but considering how on-edge his crew was in general these days, this was a physical he couldn't avoid.
In all honesty, there was something nice about being looked after so much from the lot. Bones was always a worry wart and Spock was always a close second in his own Vulcan way. He hadn't particularly expected Uhura to be gripping his arm the entire time to keep him in place or for Scotty to be standing there looking so grim. It made his entire recovery seem like a mistake. He didn't blame everyone for having second thoughts about whether transferring the blood of a mass murderer into their captain would offer no side effects. Kirk wasn't too sure of it himself but he was far too grateful to be alive at the moment to care. He had no choice but to endure and once everyone agreed he was all right, he was allowed back up to the bridge where he belonged with the trusty escort of his commanding officer.
Although he would never tell them, he didn't feel the same. Who would after something so dramatic as death? He didn't show a thing or at least he figured he wasn't but he knew better than to think his secret would last long. He could feel the hairs at the back of his neck perk up informing him that Spock was staring. He didn't even swerve the chair to look at him. Two weeks in a coma and a few months of recovery over a period of a year apparently meant nothing to some of his crew-mates. Did they think he wasn't feeling up to being back in the ship that almost killed him? Just because he avoided the engineering floor it didn't mean he wasn't over it. So he wanted to take a longer route to avoid the place, that didn't mean a damned thing.
"You can stop worrying now, Mister Spock." He eventually turned with a roll of his eyes as he caught sight of his closest friend's attentive face. It wasn't like the Vulcan to show emotion but Kirk could tell he was worried about something. He held eye contact for a few more minutes before heaving a sigh and sliding out of the chair.
"Captain." Spock began but Kirk didn't let him finish. He knew he would be offering to accompany him wherever he was going but Kirk didn't need him. He just needed to be alone, catch his breath. The pressure from all of this was too thick.
"Man the bridge. That's an order."
